Stool Samples

Research participants were presented with a line drawing of a Swedish milking stool on a postcard, an easily recognisable, relatively mundane piece of furniture. The individuals were encouraged to sketch finishes they considered to be in bad taste on to the postcard. A collection of stools was made to the exact scale and proportions of the original control piece with alternative finishes applied inspired by feedback from the focus group. There are eight stools in total; these pieces form an interactive scale where the viewer is encouraged to place the items in order of most tasteful through to least tasteful. © 2019
